Class Descriptions for Fall 2023:

Sundays 6 - 7pm EST: Heyrosa De Cuerdas 2

Maestro Paul "Antoken Ako" Rosales will be teaching Heyrosa De Cuerdas Level 2. What you will learn:

• Speed and Velocity of strike training
• Tersia, Segunda, and Primera hitting
• Speed and Accuracy training with use of targets

• Instruction on the restricted and allowed striking areas with regards to sparring exercises

• Theory of Power, Focus, Reaction Force, Equilibrium, Breath Control

• Blocking purpose and Blocking concepts

• Footwork and Body Mechanics

• Hand/Bone Structure
• De Cuerdas Training: Stick hand, Check hand and Fingers purpose

• Disarming Techniques: Using the Stick, using Check hand, using Punyo
• Karenza
• Review of Airman level

*Open to all levels of experience. However, to test it is required to pass Airman level first. Airman students can test to level up (must be able to teach what is required to be an Airman). Essay required - topic will be given 1 week prior to testing.

Sundays 8 - 9pm EST: FCS Kali 1

Guro Michael Malanyaon will be teaching FCS Kali Level 1. What you will learn:

• Basic Strikes

• Basic Defenses

• Footwork training drills
• Building foundational eye and hand coordination

• Range Awareness
• Solo Baston Form 1 -12

• 4-count right and left changes

• Hand switches with applications

• Demonstration of disarms

• Basic Knife Tapping drills

• Mano-Mano Form 1 - 5

• Hubad drills

• Carenza using basic strikes and hand switches

• Basic Tagalog* terminology and counting (*cultural main language of the Philippines)

• And more...

*Open to all practitioners of various experience levels. By the end of the session you should have a grasp of the basics, and recommendations will be made for you to continue your training in Filipino Combat Systems (FCS Kali).

Mondays 6 - 7pm EST: Defensor Method 3A

Guro Jason Brigham will be teaching the Defensor Method Level 3A curriculum, which is Serrada Eskrima. Serrada Eskrima is a traditional Eskrima system that operates in close range:

• Serrada Eskrima Basics

• Angles 1-12

• Traditional Footwork

• Hand signals for angles 1-12

• Non-verbal communication using hand signals

• Counter attacks for angles 1-12

• Lock and Block ( A unique defensive drill with a partner)

• Flow Sparring a.k.a. Sumbrada

• Two main patterns, 312 Sumbrada and Ten Count Sumbrada

*By the end of the session, you should be familiar with the basics. There will be a test at the end and certification in the Defensor Method Serrada Eskrima module.

Tuesdays 8 - 9pm EST: Serrada Escrima 1

Guro Carlito Bonjoc will be teaching Serrada Escrima Level 1. Serrada Escrima is the style made famous by its founder, Grandmaster Angel Cabales. What you will explore and learn:

• Learn the 12 strikes

• Basic footwork (Replacement Stepping)
• Basic defenses for strikes 1 and 2
• Espada y Daga application and Single blade
• Drills to support growth development for fighting attributes
• Entry level combat strategy and application

*By the end of the session you should have a grasp of the basics. GM Carlito will discuss with you the requirements for testing and certification.

Wednesdays 10 - 11pm EST: Balintawak 1

Guro Michael Malanyaon will be focusing on teaching the Basic Level 1 curriculum of Taboada Balintawak. What you will learn:

• 12 Basic Strikes in control
• 12 Basic Strikes full power (no control)
• Shadow Fighting forms 1 – 4
• Side to Side blocking (a.k.a. candlestick blocking)
• Power blocking

Additional emphasis on footwork and body structure while striking an opponent. These are not required for testing purposes, but are supplemental training going forward. Each class will start off with a 15-20 minute general warm-up before focusing on the course curriculum.

*By the end of the session you should have a grasp of the basics of level 1. To test and be certified, it is required to pass all areas in level 1 as well as have the ability to teach and lead the level 1 curriculum.

Thursdays 10 - 11pm EST: Balintawak 2

Guro Michael Malanyaon will be focusing on teaching the Basic Level 2 curriculum of Taboada Balintawak. What you will learn:

• 12 Basic Blocks
• 12 Basic Blocks with counter and control

• 12 Basic Blocks with counter no control

• Semi-Hitting Series
• Shadow Fighting forms 5 and 6

Additional emphasis on footwork and body structure while defending against an opponent. These are not required for testing purposes, but are supplemental training going forward. Each class will start off with a 15-20 minute general warm-up before focusing on the course curriculum.

*By the end of the session you should have a grasp of the basics of level 2. To test and be certified, it is required to pass all areas in level 2 as well as have the ability to teach and lead the level 1 and level 2 curriculum.

Saturdays 1 - 2pm EST: Heyrosa De Cuerdas 1

Instructor Javier Monroy will be teaching Heyrosa De Cuerdas Level 1. What you will learn:

• History of HDC, history of Balintawak in relation to HDC, meaning of HDC logo

• Proper handling of the Stick (olisi)

• Open/Close, Wiper, Figure Eight, Circle (executed in defense and offense)

• Sinawali variations: Single-Single, Single-Double, Six Count, Six Count with Roof Block, Nine Count, Nine Count with Roof Block, Eleven Count, Eleven Count with Roof Block, Triple Lasso, Triple Flip, Tinikling, Tinikling with a Twirl, Evasive without a Block, Evasive with a Block, Butterfly

• 12 Target areas

• Coordination of feet and body movement
